Odisha Millet Mission (OMM)
Anchalik Samrudhi Sadhana AnusthanOdisha Millet Mission (OMM)
Odisha Millets Mission, a flagship program of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment, Government of Odisha, was launched in 2017 to revive millets in farms and on plates. The mission aims to promote millets through urban campaigns and awareness events, highlighting their nutritional aspects and health benefits. By encouraging farmers to cultivate millets, which were traditionally a significant part of the diet and crop system in tribal areas, the mission seeks to reintroduce millets to fields and food plates. Millets are resilient to climate vulnerability, require less water and farm inputs, and are rich in nutrients like calcium, iron, and protein. In 2022, ASSA partnered with the project to support the goals of the Odisha government and actively promote millet cultivation and consumption in the entire Titilagarh block. The organization’s dedication to social development has earned it respect from government authorities and the general public, motivating their focus on the goals of the Odisha Millets Mission program.
